Taking it to 11, or rather to 840 miles this year...

Hey everyone, it's summer time and that means it's time for me to raise money for two charities that mean a lot to me: The Anchor House Ride for the Runaways and the Pan Mass Challenge. Over the course of these two rides, I'll be blogging about the sights, sounds and experiences during 840 miles of pedaling to support these two incredible organizations. You don't need to make a donation to enjoy this blog, but if you are so moved you can support my Anchor House ride by clicking here or my Pan Mass Challenge ride by clicking here.

How is it 840 miles this year? As it turns out I'm adding an extra day to each ride- 60 miles to the 500 mile Anchor House Ride for 560 miles, and 90 miles to the 190 mile PMC ride for 280 miles. Hence the 840 miles- the most I've ridden for these two rides...Here's what I'll be doing:

Anchor House Ride for the Runaways: Manchester, NH to Trenton, NJ

July 9 -16: This will be my ninth year cycling 500 miles in support of the Anchor House Foundation (www.anchorhousenj.org), an incredibly important organization that provides a refuge for homeless, runaway, abused and at-risk children in central New Jersey and Eastern PA. Last year we raised over $400,000 for Anchor House. This year's ride starts in Manchester NH and I’m super stoked that we’ll be cycling through Massachusetts for the first time in AH history. And I'll be able to bike to the start- a short 60 mile ride to Manchester from my home in Somerville.  My son, Adam, will be joining me for his third Anchor House ride. He’s a veteran rider now, and I’m excited to have him riding again- best room mate ever!

Pan Mass Challenge: West Stockbridge to Provincetown, MA

Aug 5 - 7: This will be my fifth ride to raise money for cancer research in support of the Jimmy Fund and the Dana Farber. Last year's ride was a very powerful experience as we raised a record setting $46 million and amazingly PMC passed the half billion dollar marked over its history. 100% of the money raised goes to fighting cancer through treatment and research. Curing cancer is a constant fight and I'm glad to be able to contribute to chip away at this dreaded disease. This year we're once again tacking on an extra day and starting in West Stockbridge to truly go Pan Mass (290 miles in three days).
